Tracy’s Kenpo Legacy: Turning a Specialist Martial Art Into a Membership Business

For Tracy’s Kenpo Legacy, I brought the public website, member experience, training content, and store into one connected Squarespace build. The work made a specialist martial art easier to understand while giving students a place to explore lessons and continue their training.

Driving Student Memberships for a Niche Martial Arts Form

Driving Student Memberships for a Niche Martial Arts Form

Kenpo comes with its own terminology, history, techniques, and training structure. The website needed to help newcomers understand the offering while giving people already familiar with the art a clear way to explore membership and instruction.

The business also needed more than public pages. It needed a protected member experience for training content, a clear distinction between membership and separately purchased instruction, and a small store.

Conveying the Value

To attract new students who had never heard of Kenpo before, we needed to explain the value of it, emphasize the community aspect, and distill terminology commonly found online.

We also wanted to modernize the look and feel to attract the younger generations. This was a competitive edge as most alternatives to learning Kenpo online felt outdated with their online presence.

A Unified Training Portal for Online Learning

I built the protected member portal, hosting the full training course offered in video lessons and incorporating the live class meetings and help center.

Video trainings were organized by belt, and with hundreds of hours of video content needing to be uploaded, I connected the business's YouTube channel to send the video content - saving hundreds of dollars from avoiding a subscription upgrade.

Connecting the Rest of the Business

I built a small ecommerce store for branded merchandise and brought the supporting pages into the same experience, including instructor information, blog content, and contact routes for private instruction.

The result is a connected website that supports learning about Kenpo, joining the training, accessing member content, and shopping.

Does your offering need a clean digital experience?

Let’s talk about what people need to understand, what they need to do, and how the right structure could support both.
